Five Items to be discussed
1. Paradigm change: Communication will be automated
Gartner Group has presented the Automated Document Factory (ADF) concept in the 1990s, using factory production techniques to manage the process of creating and delivering mission-critical documents such as invoices, statements, etc.. ADF has been limited to printers and inserters and has not addressed the full document production. The business communication landscape has changed. The automation of document production in combination with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Data Bases, Networks and Digital Print need to be enhanced to cover all the communication needs of the enterprise and guarantee a 100% secure delivery of information and documents.
2. Business requires bi-directional, multi-channel communication concepts
Internet has changed the business communication landscape. Access to information has changed radically. The consumer can enter 24 hours a day a virtual world full of emotions, information and knowledge. Internet enables the path from the information to the knowledge world. The new challenge is the individual. Enterprise need to understand how the customer use the information he get presented. Enterprise communication strategies need to be bi-directional (dialog), cross-media and multi-channel.
3. Enhanced business value creation through communication
The business value chain can be enhanced drastically through interactive communication management. New functions like "Design once and Distribute Anywhere", "Interactive Content Management", Interactive Campaign Management", Multi-Media and Multi-channel distribution of individualized, personalized communication to individuals and partners is required. Only a bi-directional communication allows finding and matching the consumer needs, insight and behavior.
4. Use Cross-Media success factors
Essential to synergies cross-media and multi-channel efficient bi-directional communication is a widespread content management adoption. The creation and sharing of information is a fundamental underpinning of the real-time enterprise. One brand, one message, various media is key to a successful enterprise communication strategy. Communication to be efficient need to connect online and offline activities as integrated component.
Enterprise communication will be a multi-media task.
5. Secure efficient and persistent communication
Enterprise communication processes to be efficient and persistent need to maximize the dialog with the consumer. The Gartner Group Business Model "Automated Document Factory" need to be enhanced to scope with the new business requirements. A new model emerge: Automated Communication Factory (ACF). Not one vendor as we have experienced in ADF, can serve the complete value-chain. Successful ACF technology must be scalable and repeatable, and this requires open standards. So many vendors can tie in the document and information production process. Platform independent, standardized interfaces, support of the major document formats gives the enterprise the freedom to select the product and service which best fits their requirement.
DDF as independent organization has the required framework to develop the Automated Communication Factory Model.
